In addition to curtailing theft, a smart card system cuts costs. Going cashless has reduced some casinos' operating costs by as much as 40%.

Cash Handling: Because so many of your expenses are driven by the need to handle, secure, store and distribute cash, a cashless system can significantly drive down costs. When all of that manpower is freed from weighing, collecting, delivering and protecting all those coins and bills, it can be directed to making your customers happy and loyal. Cashless play is faster play. Handling money also takes time for customers. Time previously spent in cashier lines and budgeted for cash-out is spent in gaming.

Maintenance and Repair: An enormous percentage of the maintenance and repair required by gaming equipment is directly related to coins and bills. When cash collection and pay-out are reduced to reading and writing to a plastic card, maintenance costs for both parts and labor can plummet.

Float: The huge amounts of cash which had to be available for gaming requirements can be put to better use. Float now becomes a profit center as customers put cash and credit on their smart cards to be held by the casino until they cash out.
